- Connecting A Sharp Wizard 8000/8200 to a Modem
- -----------------------------------------------
-
- I recently purchased a Sharp Wizard 8000 and was intrigued by it's
- terminal function. This is particularily useful to me while traveling
- because I can bring the Wizard and a modem to check my e-mail
- remotely. However, the cables that Sharp sells are expensive,
- especially after dishing out ~$100 for the Organizer Link for the
- Macintosh. I therefore constructed a cable that, along with the
- CE-135T cable (that comes with the Link), allows the wizard to connect
- to my Hayes compatible modems. The following are the
- pin configurations for the cable which is male RS-232 on the modem end and
- female Mini-DIN-8 on the end which connects to the CE-135T cable.
-
- RS232 (male) mini DIN-8 (female)
- ------------ -------------------
- 2 5 RXD-
- 3 3 TXD-
- 5 1 HSKo
- 7 4 GND
- 7 6 TXD+ (not sure if this is necessary)
- 20 2 HSKi
-
- The numbering for the mini DIN-8 connector is the same as given in
- the Macintosh manuals for the serial ports:
-
- 1 2
-
- 3 4 5
-
- 6 7 8
-
- The cable cost me $7.50, a far cry from the $99.00 Sharp quoted
- to acheive the same results. Of course you do have to buy the
- Organizer Link!
